Description:
Catholic teaching that the Holy Eucharist celebrated in the Catholic Mass re-presents the sacrifice of Jesus Christ on the cross of calvary which was itself anticipate when Jesus celebrated the Jewish Passover at his Last Supper with his Apostles. The Catholic Mass is a memorial of the Last Supper, and so renews the covenant in which Jesus fulfills the Passover by making himself the lamb of sacrifice which saves those who are marked with his blood and partake of his flesh and blood. Jesus offered himself on the cross to the Father for the sins of all men, and in the Catholic Mass, renews this sacrifice and offers himself as true food and drink in the Eucharist. Jesus is wholly present - body, blood, soul and divinity - under the appearance of bread and wine.
